The Holy Spirit

The Open Heaven

By T. Austin-Sparks
(1888 - 1971)

THE mark of a life governed by the Holy Spirit is that such a life is continually and ever more and more occupied with Christ, that Christ is becoming greater and greater as time goes on. The effect of the Holy Spirit's work in us is to bring us to the shore of a mighty ocean which reaches far, far beyond our range, concerning which we feel—Oh, the depths of the fullness of Christ! The Holy Spirit

By Charles Spurgeon
(1834 - 1892)

COMMON, too common is the sin of forgetting the Holy Spirit. This is folly and ingratitude. He deserves well at our hands, for he is good, supremely good. As God, he is good essentially. He shares in the threefold ascription of Holy, holy, holy, which ascends to the Triune Jehovah. Unmixed purity and truth, and grace is he. He is good benevolently, tenderly bearing with our waywardness, striving with our rebellious wills; quickening us from our death in sin, and then training us for the skies as a loving nurse fosters her child. How generous, forgiving, and tender is this patient Spirit of God. More

The Church's Greatest Need

The greatest thing the church needs in this time,
is God's Holy Spirit.

The Spirit

By David Harsha

 The Spirit is given to supply the Savior's absence,
and to apply to our souls the redemption finished
on Calvary. It is His blessed work to glorify Jesus;
to testify of Him.

By E.M. Bounds
(1835-1913)

One of the revelations of the New Testament concerning the Holy Spirit is that He is our helper in prayer. So we have in the following incident in our Lord’s life the close connection between the Holy Spirit’s work and prayer. More

O Spirit of the living God,
Thou light and fire divine,
Descend upon Thy church once more,
And make it truly Thine.
Fill it with love and joy and power,
With righteousness and peace;
Till Christ shall dwell in human hearts,
And sin and sorrow cease.

Blow, wind of God! With wisdom blow
Until our minds are free
From mists of error, clouds of doubt,
Which blind our eyes to Thee.
Burn, winged fire! Inspire our lips
With flaming love and zeal,
To preach to all Thy great good news,
God's glorious commonweal.

Teach us to utter living words
Of truth which all may hear,
The language all may understand
When love speaks loud and clear;
Till every age and race and clime
Shall blend their creeds in one,
And earth shall form one family
By whom Thy will is done.

So shall we know the power of Christ
Who came this world to save;
So shall we rise with Him to life
Which soars beyond the grave;
And earth shall win true holiness,
Which makes Thy children whole;
Till, perfected by Thee, we reach
Creation's glorious goal!
