Over 150 people attended the two day conference on “The Sufficiency of Scripture”, held at Shepherdhill Baptist Church in Lagos on November 3-4, 2011, organized by Sovereign Grace Bible Church (SGBC). Seven messages were brought by four speakers (Joe Jacowitz, Abiodun Longe, Tony Okoroh and Femi Sonuga-Oye). The messages covered: The Sufficiency of Scripture Regarding – The Gospel and Salvation, Marriage, Role of Women in Ministry, Worship, and Preaching. A feature introduced at this conference was to have attendees in two groups discuss what they heard in the messages. The discussion over the two days were lively and afforded opportunity for the organizers, the speakers and the attendees to narrow differences in doctrinal positions regarding the Scripture. And in one main case; many in the audience regarded visions and dreams as means that God still uses to speak in 2011; the speakers had to state as strongly as possible, showing from the Scripture, that the Bible remains authoritative and sufficient, God does not still speak through dreams and visions in 2011. To say that the Bible is not sufficient for all things needed for life and faith is like saying that Christ Jesus, our Lord, is not sufficient for life and faith and all things. Literature from Chapel Library in Pensacola, Florida were distributed to all who came. Each person was given at least three booklets/books by different authors, on display on the literature table. Each went home also with a book gift from Christ Bible Church (CBC): “The Devil and the Church” by E.M. Bounds. This gift was offered to all who heard a radio broadcast presented by Pastor Joe Jacowitz of CBC over a local FM station for three nights. The three nights of radio, sponsored by Christ Bible Church, USA, helped our effort at letting people know of the conference, the CPS, and SGBC. Pastor Joe in presenting the talk program, about one hour each night, read out portions of 2 Peter 2 and Ezekiel 34 appealing to Pastors to honor the Lord Jesus Christ by feeding the Lord’s sheep brought to them; instead of feasting on them. The very few calls allowed on the 2nd and 3rd nights of the radio program left in us the impression that many in Lagos have been hurt by the covetousness in the church. We are negotiating with the FM station to keep a slot for us, to see whether the hurting ones would be reached thereby. We look to the Lord for a confirmation of this plan as we wait on Him to send to us the required resources for a weekly program for at least a quarter (13 weeks) of 2012.
